TThis summer the collaboration between The National Theater of the Deaf and The American School for the Deaf has brought the Theater Immersion Program back to the Visual Communication Center (VCC). This year, 10 high school students are learning character development, stage presence, improvisation, and working on ASL story telling, poetry, and short plays under the leadership of Patrick Fischer, Christina Stevens, and Bill Halscheid.
The culmination will be an evening show (Free to the ASD community) in the VCC on Thursday August 8th starting at 7:00 pm (doors open at 6:30 pm).
Students will perform original stories, poetry, as well as 3 short plays. Two of the scripts are excerpts from the comedy "The Good Doctor" by Neil Simon.
Session 2: PACES
August 12-16, 2019 (5 days)
For American School for the Deaf Students currently enrolled in PACES Elementary and PACES Middle School
In both sessions, students will engage in classes, workshops, script development, rehearsals, and performances. Learn theatricalized American Sign Language, translation and acting in this hands-on opportunity. No previous experience necessary. Participants will perform at the Rockwell Visual Communications Center on the ASD campus.
The Theater Immersion Program “headquarters” will be located on the campus of the American School for the Deaf. Housing will be available in campus dormitories and trained dormitory staff will be in residence.
