The American School for the Deaf Athletic Program views our athletics program as part of a larger commitment to excellence in the development of the whole student-athlete. Our goal is to emphasize an environment that teaches the values of teamwork, pride, respect, commitment, sportsmanship and the development of a proper winning attitude and strong work ethic. We offer a wide range of athletic opportunities to fit every student-athlete's needs.
ASD is proud to set high expectations for our administration, coaches and student-athletes, both on the field and off. Our student-athletes are ALL ways able.
In addition to varsity sports, ASD offers a wide range of levels to guarantee that every child can participate (Youth, Junior Varsity, and Special Olympics).
In our Youth and Junior Varsity levels, our emphasis is on the development of the student-athlete and having fun over winning. Our coaches strive to ensure every student-athlete has the opportunity to participate and play while continuing to develop our students' athletic passions, at their own pace.
ASD aligns with the mission of the Special Olympics to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children with intellectual disabilities, giving them continued opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympic athletes and the community.
ASD is proud to offer the Bigger, Faster, Stronger weight lifting program with our fully certified weight lifting staff in addition to a full range of Nautilus equipment to provide student-athletes with the support they need to develop their strength, power and agility. This equipment also encourages the teaching of lifelong lessons in health & fitness.
ASD also offers recreational athletics, including Disc Golf, Boys' and Girls' Slow Pitch Softball. We strive to remain committed to providing new opportunities for our student-athletes.
