Student Health Center
The American School for the Deaf (ASD) Student Health Center (SHC) provides medical services to all students enrolled in the school. Professional nursing staff is here not only to take care of students when they are sick, but also to help educate and instruct them on how to prevent illness and maintain good health. We believe good health is a vital part of student academic achievement and fulfilling one's potential.
The Student Health Center is staffed from Monday to Thursday from 7:00 a.m. until 11:15 p.m., with an on-call nurse from 11:15 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. For the weekend programming (International and PACES students), an on-call nurse is available 24 hours for student medical issues. Over 85 students are seen daily for various health concerns.
A pediatrician holds clinic on campus four days a week. Services range from sick visit evaluations to yearly physicals including dental and vision screenings. The physician is also available by telephone for emergencies.
In addition to providing pediatric medical services, ASD consults with other health professionals, including dental, visual and psychiatric professionals.
