Community Sign Language Classes: Schedule for 2009-2010 Classes XML feed
Community Sign LanguageAmerican School for the Deaf (ASD) has been offering non-credit community American Sign Language (ASL) classes for more than 30 years. Fall, winter, and spring sessions meet once a week for eight weeks; summer session meets twice weekly for four weeks.

Students will learn basic American Sign Language, using the text, A Basic Course in American Sign Language, as well as a variety of resources designed to support the goals of the class. Students learn best in the context of communicative activities through group practice, exercises and dialogues. After completion of all three levels, some students have decided to pursue ASL further at other colleges or universities.

Following the text, sections are divided as follows:
Level I: Chapters 1-6

Level II: Chapters 7-14

Level III: Chapters 15-22
Learning any language requires time and practice, and you will enjoy building your knowledge of basic ASL to communicate with a friend, family member or colleague. We have a supportive, enthusiastic community of teachers at ASD. We hope you will join us!
