Students and mentors from the American School for the Deaf (ASD) and University High School of Science and Engineering (UHSE) are once again immersed in the FIRST Robotics science, math and engineering competition. Team 1991 (aka The Dragons) was named Rookie All Star at the Bae Systems Granite State Regional Competition last year, and followed that by winning Rookie Top Seed Award and First Runner Up in Safety. They are determined to go even further this year, and look forward to testing their robot in the regional and national competitions.
Not content to focus on just one set of challenges, ASD students Marcus Greco, Joey Ronan and Joey Weingart entered a small scale robotics competition, the Connecticut FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Championship Tournament, where they placed eighth out of 35 teams and made it to the quarter finals! This rookie team did so well, they were able to choose alliances - a privilege usually afforded the more experienced teams. Together with Martin Kellogg Middle School, they rocked the Tournament as the Rage Team, impressing judges, participants and spectators.
