Job Title: Educational Interpreter-Groton, CT
Scope of Duties: Under the supervision of the Director of Educational Outreach Programming, provides educational interpreting services in the general education classroom.
Primary Duties:

Under the supervision of the Director of Educational Outreach Programming:

  • Participates, implements, and evaluates I.E.P’s in communication for deaf and hard of hearing children and youth for both group and individual work.
  • Integrates work with other department programs; works with teachers.
  • Gives special attention to instruction to children with hearing loss, especially those using interpreting services in the areas of sign language/oral/aural communication skills.
  • Confers with school administrators, professional colleagues and parents concerning the program development and the overall communication needs of children.
  • Works with teaching staff in integrating sign language, speech, and auditory training into classroom course context.
    Prepares lesson plans for the teaching of sign language and reports as required.
  • Participates in student staffings, staff meetings, curricular project meetings, and staff development activities; functions as a member of the educational team.
    Maintains records and does other related work as required.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
   
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor Degree is desired. Applicants must have successfully completed significant coursework pertaining specifically to the development and implementation of educational interpreting utilizing various communication skills for deaf and hard of hearing students. Professional experience in the provision of such direct services is highly desirable. SCPI Level of Advanced. Interpreter Certification required: Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID): CI, CT, CI/CT or CSC or National Association of the Deaf (NAD): Level IV/ V. Ability to work in a collaborative setting.
Salary & Benefits: Compensation range is specified by education/certification and relevant experience.
