Health and Physical Education

Teacher and student doing pushupsASD’s Health, Physical Education and Adapted Physical Education programs are modeled after the State of Connecticut Healthy and Balanced Living Curriculum Framework (HBLCF). In addition, our curriculum aligns with the Adapted Physical Education National Standards (APENS) as well as the National Association for Sport and Physical Education Standards (NASPE). Our scope and sequence connects with the Common Core State Standards, The College and Career Readiness Anchor Standards and the 21st Century Skills framework.

Health Curriculum

Our Health curriculum is a sequential PreK -12 program that consists of 9 units designed to give students the tools needed to make educated decisions about their health, fitness, and wellness both now and in their future. Units include:

Dangers and effects of alcohol and other drugs
Community and environmental health
Injury prevention
Mental health
Nutrition
Personal and consumer health
Physical activity
Family health and sexuality
Dangers and effects of tobacco
